Chronic Pain and The Treatment of Work-related Injuries
Considering Alternative Treatment Paradigms

Rationale

Returning to work following an occupational injury is often met with multiple challenges. In addition to the often-present psychosocial concern(s), there exists varied treatment philosophies and management approaches. In some cases, the treatment and resolution may be straightforward, timely and without difficulty. However, in many situations a "standard" approach fails, recovery is delayed, the employee and employer become frustrated, costs escalate and often treatment becomes a progression from one physician to another and from one therapy group to another, and so on.

The purpose of this course is to identify alternative approaches to treating and managing work-related injuries that promote a safe, timely, efficient and cost-effective return to full duty.

This course is appropriate for all skill levels and while it discusses direct treatment options by both physical and occupational therapists, there is application to general case management personnel as well.
