Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)

Many employers and payers have expressed frustration and concern that traditional FCEs often provide incomplete and ambiguous information, inconclusive for specific applications, and that there are too many subjective components to the evaluations. Consequently, upon completion of the evaluation, challenges still exist in resolving claims and returning employees back to work. This frustration is accentuated by the time and cost involved in an FCE.

In response to these concerns, Jobsite Solutions has developed multiple tools/solutions to identify an individual's physical capabilities. These tools, as are all Jobsite Solutions', are designed with an eye towards customer-specific outcomes. For example:

• An injured employee returning to work at the job of injury will be examined against specific criteria (essential job functions) to be able to return to that job.
• Evaluating the capabilities of an employee to determine what type of work they may be able to perform (i.e.: vocational rehabilitation), on the other hand, requires a broader scope. Various diverse capabilities must be measured for potential placement into any number of available jobs.
• Some cases require objective information that is legally defensible. This requires that additional steps be taken during testing procedures to conclusively determine consistency of effort.

Given the differences in outcome needs, we recommend that different evaluative methods be used. In addition, to be most effective and accurate when considering an individual's capabilities to perform a specific job, Jobsite Solutions employs a focus on real work activities and situations. As a result, our evaluation will result in a clear, concise, conclusive report, delivered in a time-efficient, cost-effective manner. Our outcome-oriented approach will provide information that fosters case movement.
