Injuries & Illnesses before Marathon


Thierry Franke, PT of Utrecht University is our guest for this Mountain Land Running Medicine Podcast. Thierry specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation, specifically shoulder and ACL rehabilitation. During the final year of his masters, he performed an observational cohort study including nearly 600 half and full marathon runners participating in the Utrecht Marathon together with assistant professor Bionka Huisstede PhD PT and professor Frank Backx MD PhD at the Department of Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy Science, and Sports of the University Medical Center Utrecht, Utrecht University. In 2017, he started working part-time on his PhD investigating the occurrence and impact of health problems in half and full marathon runners and the use and effects of preventive measures such as compression garments. Thierry currently works as a policy adviser for the Royal Dutch Physical Therapy Association.
