Staff Spotlight: Kelly Heintz

Kelly HeintzWhat is your role at Mountain Land?
I am a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in Home Health.

What would people never guess you do in your role?
I help people regain their independence with ALL of their activities of living. Yes, we work on all the basics of dressing, toileting, bathing, but then you will have a patient that loves to paint, sew, garden, golf, or email family and friends. I enjoy being able to not only restore someone’s independence with basic activities of living, but being able to increase their quality of life with restoring their ability to do the things they really love to do.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
I love to see people succeed and overcome obstacles in their life, so that they can have a better quality of life and know that you were a part of that.

How did you first learn about Mountain Land?
I had a wonderful friend that worked for Mountain Land, sadly she is no longer with us, but she raved about how wonderful Mountain Land was to work with.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I was a COTA at LDS Hospital prior to working at Mountain Land and I had the opportunity to work on all the floors. I worked in the ICU’s, I was able to help develop the “Slow to Recover” program with cardiac patients. I screened the LVAD patients prior to their surgery and recommended what kind of training they were going to need prior to going home. I was able to work the Ortho, Oncology, Medical, Trauma, and spend lots of time in the Neuro Rehab Unit – I saw everything, and learned so much.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
Anything that involves my children. I plan lots of things so they have to come over!! I love to travel, boating, swimming, golf, motorcycles, garden, quilt, and condo camping!!

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
My husband, my children, and yes, believe it or not, I have 1 grandchild. They are the ones that have loved and supported me through everything. They make the hard times easier to get through and the good times even better. They are my ROCK!

What is your biggest pet peeve?
I can’t stand it when you’re at a red light and the car behind you keeps inching up on you. Or it really bugs me when I am the passenger and the driver inches up on the car in front of you. I mean it is a red light, where are you going?? Just STOP!!

What is your favorite movie and book?
Anything that makes me laugh and feel good about myself!!
